Amazon’s cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services (AWS), grew 12% in the second quarter of 2023, contributing $6.7 billion in net income to the company. AWS now accounts for 16% of Amazon’s total revenue.

The company’s overall net income was $6.7 billion, up from a loss of $2 billion in the same quarter last year. Net sales increased 11% to $134.4 billion.

Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, said that the company is “excited about the long-term opportunity” in the cloud computing market. He said that AWS is “well-positioned to continue to grow and innovate.”

The company’s results were released after the market closed on Thursday. Amazon’s stock price rose 1.5% in after-hours trading.
