Apple has launched an official iCloud Passwords extension for Firefox, making it easier for macOS users to access their saved passwords while browsing. However, the extension is limited to macOS Sonoma or later, leaving Windows users out for now.
For Windows users, Apple recommends downloading iCloud for Windows along with the iCloud Passwords extension for Chrome or Edge. When asked, Apple has not confirmed if Firefox support for Windows is in the works.
Interestingly, the Firefox extension was initially developed by another party, but Apple has now taken full ownership, according to a statement on the extension’s GitHub page. The original developer notes that Apple is now solely responsible for maintaining the extension, and the repository is retained only for “historical reasons.”
This move strengthens Apple’s cross-platform ecosystem, though the lack of Windows support for Firefox users may leave some disappointed.
