Apple is gearing up for a significant transformation of Siri, integrating advanced AI capabilities to make the digital assistant more conversational and versatile, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Dubbed “LLM Siri,” the new system will utilize Apple’s proprietary AI models, enabling natural interactions and more complex task management.

This AI-powered evolution will enhance Siri’s ability to handle advanced functions, such as leveraging App Intents for third-party app interactions and using Apple Intelligence to summarize or compose text. Apple is also working on features allowing Siri to “understand” on-screen content and perform in-app actions, slated for release next year.

While Apple could announce these changes as early as 2025, the complete replacement of Siri’s current architecture with the new system is planned for spring 2026. Apple’s Craig Federighi highlighted the distinction between Siri’s practical, device-focused capabilities and the broader functions of AI models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, suggesting a convergence of these functionalities in the future.

Apple’s cautious approach to AI is evident, as it only recently integrated ChatGPT features into Siri through the iOS 18.2 beta. This deliberate pace underscores Apple’s focus on localized, privacy-centric AI enhancements, aiming to balance innovation with user security and functionality.
