Apple might soon allow users to share the location of lost items, like an iPhone, MacBook, or an Airtag-equipped device, with people outside of their contacts by sending them a link through the Find My app.

This new feature, spotted in the iOS 18.2 developer beta by Macrumors, is aimed at making it easier to find lost belongings by sharing their location with people like a cab driver or an airline staff member.

In the latest version of the Find My app, there’s a new “Share Item Location” option, which creates a link to the missing item’s location. Anyone can open this link, even on non-Apple devices, to help track down the item. The link will automatically expire after a week or once the item is returned.

There’s also an option to “Share Contact Info,” allowing any phone to connect to the lost item and view a webpage displaying your phone number and email—if you’ve added these details to the item’s contact page. This could help someone who finds the item reach out to you directly.

Find My already allows location sharing with people in your contacts, but this update expands that functionality and even lets users view statistics, like how many people accessed the shared link.
