The social media platform Bluesky has experienced a significant increase in signups from the United Kingdom.

This surge comes as Elon Musk’s contentious remarks about nationwide riots drive users to seek alternatives to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Bluesky reported a 60% increase in activity from UK accounts, with numerous Members of Parliament joining the platform. The company shared this information in an emailed statement on Monday.

Musk has been accused of fueling tensions following far-right riots in Britain, which were ignited by online misinformation surrounding the murder of three girls in northern England last month.

The Tesla CEO used X to spread misleading information to his millions of followers, including a post suggesting that civil war in Britain was “inevitable.” This statement drew criticism from Prime Minister Keir Starmer and renewed calls for the government to expedite the implementation of laws regulating online content.

Bluesky highlighted that for five out of the last seven days, the UK led the world in new signups, marking a notable shift in the platform’s user base.
