On Christmas Day, social network Bluesky announced it is testing a new “Trending Topics” feature, now accessible on both desktop and mobile platforms for users worldwide.
Desktop users can find trending topics on the right sidebar, while mobile users can view them by tapping the search icon. However, the feature is currently limited to English-language content. To opt-out, users can navigate to Settings > Content and Media and uncheck the “Enable trending topics” option.
Bluesky assures its users that muted words and phrases will carry over to trending topics, ensuring personalized content control. Any terms on your muted list will remain hidden from view within this new feature.
With over 25 million users, Bluesky considers this rollout a foundational step, promising future enhancements. Interestingly, while this is Bluesky’s first iteration of trending topics, third-party client apps like Greysky had already introduced similar functionality last year.
In the competitive landscape of social networks, Bluesky’s rival Threads launched trending topics for U.S. users back in March and expanded testing to Japan in October.
What do you think about Bluesky’s new addition? Share your thoughts!
