Cambodia has blocked access to 16 cryptocurrency exchange websites, including big names like Binance and Coinbase, as part of its efforts to control the growing but largely unregulated crypto market.
Interestingly, while the websites are now inaccessible, their apps remain fully functional, leaving many users wondering about the effectiveness of this move.
This decision reflects the Cambodian government’s ongoing struggle to balance crypto regulation with international pressure to clean up its reputation as a hub for cyber scams.
The Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) issued the directive on November 20, targeting 102 URLs. Most of these were linked to online gambling, but the inclusion of Binance and other major crypto platforms caught the attention of many.
According to the TRC, these platforms were blocked for operating without licenses from the Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC).
