Networking giant Cisco is investigating claims that it experienced a data breach, following reports that a hacker is selling allegedly stolen data on a hacking forum.
The tech giant confirmed to BleepingComputer that it is aware of the situation and is actively investigating the matter.
“We are aware of reports that a threat actor claims to have accessed certain Cisco-related files. An investigation has been launched to assess the validity of this claim, and we are continuing to investigate,” a Cisco spokesperson told BleepingComputer.
These claims stem from a post by a hacker known as “IntelBroker,” who, along with two others named “EnergyWeaponUser” and “zjj,” reportedly breached Cisco on June 10, 2024. IntelBroker’s post on a hacking forum lists a variety of stolen data, including source code, GitHub projects, hard-coded credentials, SSL certificates, and confidential documents from Cisco.
The hacker also provided samples of the stolen data, which included customer information and screenshots of management portals but did not disclose the methods used to obtain the data.
