The National Police of Ukraine, in partnership with Europol, has successfully apprehended a 29-year-old individual believed to be the mastermind behind a sophisticated cryptojacking scheme, responsible for mining over €1.8 million in cryptocurrencies.

Cryptojacking in a cloud environment is a malicious activity; malicious actors gain unauthorized access to cloud computing infrastructure and use its computational power to mine cryptocurrencies. By stealing cloud resources to mine cryptocurrencies, the criminals can avoid paying the necessary servers and power, the cost of which typically outweighs the profits.

The suspect is alleged to have exploited cloud computing infrastructure to clandestinely mine cryptocurrencies. This malicious activity involves unauthorized access to cloud resources, allowing cybercriminals to utilize computational power without incurring the associated costs.
