Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), has agreed to pay $10 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.

This makes X the second major social media company to reach a settlement with Trump over his account suspension following the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. Last month, Meta (Facebook’s parent company) agreed to pay $25 million to settle a similar lawsuit.

Trump originally sued Twitter (now X), Facebook, and Google (YouTube’s parent company), along with their CEOs at the time, in July 2021. He claimed that these companies unlawfully silenced conservative voices by banning him from their platforms.

Initially, Trump’s team considered letting the lawsuit against X fade away, given his close ties with Elon Musk, who reportedly donated $250 million to Trump’s election campaign. However, they eventually decided to move forward with the settlement, WSJ reported.
