Starting February 19th, Facebook will automatically delete users’ live broadcast recordings after 30 days unless downloaded or saved as Reels.
Users who want to keep their live videos must either download them before the expiration date or share them as Reels, though Reels are limited to 90-second clips.
Meta says the change aligns with industry storage policies since “most live video views occur within the first few weeks of broadcasting.” Additionally, previously recorded live videos older than 30 days will also be removed. Facebook will send email and app notifications before deletion, allowing users 90 days to save or transfer their videos before they are permanently erased.
To help users save their videos, Facebook offers multiple download options:
- Bulk download all videos within a specific date range.
- Transfer videos directly to Dropbox or Google Drive.
- Save individual videos from the Activity Log, Videos tab, or Live tab on a profile, Page, or Meta Business Suite.
If users need more time, they can postpone deletion for six months by selecting the “postpone” option in their notification.
