Google has announced a new feature for Gmail that will verify the identity of senders through a blue checkmark next to their name.
This feature builds on Gmail’s existing Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI), which requires companies to authenticate their brand logo in order to display it as an email avatar. Companies that have already adopted BIMI will automatically receive the verified checkmark.
The purpose of this feature is to help users distinguish between legitimate senders and scammers and to increase confidence in email sources. By hovering over the checkmark, users can see that the sender has verified their domain and profile image.
The rollout of verified checkmarks will begin today and will be available to both Workspace accounts and personal Google accounts. This feature is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to improve email security and combat spam.
