Google Chrome has upgraded its existing “Enhanced Protection” feature with AI to provide real-time security against malicious websites, downloads, and extensions.

As first noted by a user on X, the update has now been rolled out to Chrome’s stable channel across all platforms after three months of testing in the Canary build.

Enhanced Protection, a part of Chrome’s Safe Browsing feature, has been available for years. However, this latest update integrates AI, marking a shift in how threats are detected and prevented.

Previously, Chrome used “proactive protection” to shield users from harmful sites, but with AI, it may now analyze patterns in real-time to warn users about potential threats, even those not previously identified by Google.

Additionally, Google states that AI-powered protection performs a deeper scan of suspicious downloads to enhance security. However, it also notes that browsing data is sent to Google when Enhanced Protection is enabled.

By default, this AI-driven protection is turned off. Users can enable it by navigating to Settings > Security on Windows, Android, and iOS.
