Google’s Gemini AI integration in Drive just got even more practical. Building on its ability to summarize documents and answer project-related questions, Gemini can now generate comprehensive summaries of entire folders.

The new feature allows users to open a folder and click the “Summarize this folder” button, generating an overview of its contents. According to Google, Gemini can help locate specific files within a folder or answer contextual questions like “What is the theme of this folder?” For added convenience, users can also drag and drop folders into the Gemini sidebar or use the right-click menu to access the AI assistant by selecting “Ask Gemini.”

Initially, Gemini supports text documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, and presentations. However, tests by 9to5Google revealed that the tool can also identify images in folders.

Google introduced Gemini to the sidebar in Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides earlier this year. The folder summary feature is rolling out now to Google One AI Premium subscribers, as well as Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium users. This enhancement showcases Google’s continued push to make AI an integral part of its productivity ecosystem.
