Google has introduced a new searchable transcript feature for videos stored in Google Drive.

This feature is now rolling out to all Google Workspace users and is expected to be available for everyone by March 26th.

The transcripts work just like YouTube captions. If a transcript is available, it will appear as timestamped text in a sidebar next to the video. The text will be highlighted in real-time as the video plays. Users can also search within the transcript to find specific words or phrases. Clicking on a text block will take you to that exact moment in the video. To access the transcript, click on the settings icon at the bottom of the video and select “Transcript.”

However, this feature is only available for videos that already have captions enabled. If a video doesn’t have captions, users can generate them by right-clicking on the video file in Drive, selecting “Manage caption tracks,” and then choosing “Generate automatic captions.”

This update makes it easier to search, navigate, and reference information from video content stored in Google Drive.
