Google blocked over 2.28 million apps from the Play Store for potentially violating store policies in 2023.
This was achieved through enhanced security features, stricter policies, advanced machine learning processes, and more rigorous app reviews.
Google bolstered developer onboarding, requiring expanded identity verification to identify bad actors and fraudsters more effectively. This resulted in the banning of 333,000 malicious developer accounts.
Nearly 200,000 app submissions were rejected or required changes to address improper use of sensitive permissions like background location and SMS.
Google collaborated with SDK providers, limiting sensitive data access for over 790,000 apps and expanded the Google Play SDK Index for improved developer decision-making.
