A surge in phishing attacks is targeting users with emails where hackers impersonate the shipping company DHL, tricking them into clicking malicious attachments.

Phishing is a type of social engineering attack often used to steal user data, including login credentials and credit card numbers. It occurs when an attacker, masquerading as a trusted entity, dupes a victim into opening an email, instant message, or text message. The recipient is then tricked into clicking a malicious link, which can lead to the installation of malware, the freezing of the system as part of a ransomware attack, or the revealing of sensitive information.

This morning, while checking my emails as usual, I saw one that appeared to be from the DHL shipping company. The subject line read ‘YOUR SHIPMENT HAS ARRIVED’.

No further details seem to be in the email. However, to access the invoice, packing list, etc., the User has to download an attachment.

Furthermore, the email reads ‘DHL Express On Demand Delivery now notifying in WhatsApp’ and provides an ‘Enable now’ option. This option leads to a phishing site where hackers can steal confidential information.

These attacks highlight the importance of remaining vigilant when it comes to emails. Always examine the sender’s address, be cautious of unexpected attachments, and hover over links to reveal their true destination. If something seems suspicious, don’t risk it.
