Apple’s iOS 18 introduced Apple Intelligence, an AI-driven feature that summarizes multiple notifications from the same app into a single card on your lock screen. While this feature aims to reduce clutter, it doesn’t always hit the mark. Summaries can sometimes be inaccurate, leading to confusion or even amusing errors. If you find this feature more hassle than a help, here’s how to turn it off or customize it.

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings and navigate to Notifications.
  2. Tap on Summarize Notifications.
  3. You’ll see two options:
    • Turn off summaries for all apps by toggling the Summarize Notifications option.
    • Disable summaries for specific apps by customizing the list below.

On Mac

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Go to System Settings > Notifications.
  3. Select Summarize Notifications and toggle it off entirely, or manage the feature for individual apps.

What You Can’t Do

At the moment, there is no way to disable summaries for entire app categories, such as news or shopping.

Apple has acknowledged the AI-driven nature of these summaries and plans to release an update that better informs users about potential inaccuracies. Until then, customizing or turning off the feature is the best way to regain control over your notifications.
