iPhone users can now choose WhatsApp as their default app for calls and text messages, according to WABetaInfo.
After updating to WhatsApp version 25.8.74, you’ll see it as an option in your phone’s default app settings for messaging and calling.
Apple originally announced that only users in the European Union would be able to switch their default phone and messaging apps. However, the company later confirmed that this feature is available to all iPhone users with iOS 18.2.
To set WhatsApp as your default app, go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps. From there, select Messaging and Calling, and you’ll see a list of apps you can choose from—including WhatsApp if you’re on the latest version.
Once set, your iPhone will automatically open WhatsApp whenever you tap a phone number on a webpage or select the message button in your contacts list.
