A major data breach has compromised the personal information of 31 million Star Health Insurance customers, with the stolen data now up for sale online.
A hacker known as “xenZen” is selling 7.24 TB of sensitive data for $150,000, while also offering smaller portions of 100,000 customer records for $10,000 each. The data reportedly includes names, PAN numbers, phone numbers, policy details, health information, and more.
Star Health has confirmed the breach, stating that they were targeted in a “malicious cyberattack.” They reassured customers that operations are running normally, despite the breach, and that a thorough forensic investigation is underway with cybersecurity experts and government authorities involved.
The hacker claims Star Health was complicit in the leak, alleging that the company sold the data directly to them. However, Star Health has strongly denied these claims, labeling them an attempt to spread panic. The insurer has filed a lawsuit against both the hacker and Telegram, where the data was initially leaked.
Star Health also warned that unauthorized access, possession, or distribution of customer data is illegal and will lead to legal consequences.
