The days of casually sharing your Max login with friends and family might be coming to an end. Warner Bros. Discovery is set to roll out its long-awaited crackdown on password sharing starting next week. But don’t worry—things are kicking off with a soft touch.
At a recent conference, WBD’s JB Perrette revealed that users can expect “some very early, gentle messaging” as the first step in addressing account sharing. Perrette says the real changes will come in the first quarter of 2024 when Max will introduce the option to add a member to your account.
This strategy mirrors what other streaming platforms like Netflix have implemented, aiming to reel in some extra viewers who’ve been riding for free. While details on pricing for added members haven’t been shared yet, it’s clear the company is taking steps to tighten control over account usage.
So, if you’ve been borrowing someone else’s Max credentials, it might be time to start planning your own subscription—or brace for some “gentle messaging” in your inbox.
