Max (formerly HBO Max) is the latest streaming service to crack down on password sharing.

Warner Bros. Discovery announced that users will now have to pay an extra $7.99 per month to share their account with someone who lives outside their home.

This new feature is called the “Extra Member Add-On.” It lets you invite a friend or family member to create their own separate Max account using your subscription. The added person will have their own login details and can watch on one device at a time. They’ll get the same features that the main account has, but you can only add one extra member per account.

Max is also introducing a profile transfer option. This makes it easy for someone to move their watch history, viewing suggestions, and settings to a new account — helpful if they’re switching from a shared login.

Right now, this extra member option is only for users who subscribe directly to Max, not for those who get Max through a bundle with another service.

Max is following other big streamers like Netflix and Disney+, who also charge for account sharing. Netflix charges up to $8.99/month, while Disney+ offers it starting at $6.99/month with ads.
