Meta is reportedly working on a dedicated app for its AI chatbot, according to a report from CNBC.
The Verge has also confirmed the development, with the app expected to launch in the second quarter of this year. This move positions Meta alongside other major AI players, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot.
Currently, Meta AI is integrated across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. However, a standalone app could help the company expand its reach beyond its existing platforms. Similar to rival AI assistants, Meta AI can answer questions, generate images, edit photos, and more. It also recently introduced a “memory” feature that enhances its ability to provide personalized recommendations.
In response to the news, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman jokingly posted, “ok fine maybe we’ll do a social app.” Meanwhile, Meta declined to comment on the report.
Meta has been aggressively expanding its AI efforts, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing plans to invest up to $65 billion in the company’s AI initiatives. Additionally, Meta is set to host a dedicated AI event on April 29th, where further developments may be revealed.
