According to a spokesperson, Meta has reportedly fired around 20 employees for leaking confidential company information.

The company has been cracking down on internal leaks as reports about unannounced product plans and internal meetings continue to surface.

Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold told The Verge that employees are informed about the company’s policies on confidentiality when they join. “We make it clear that leaking internal information is against our policies, and we remind employees regularly,” Arnold said. “Following a recent investigation, we terminated roughly 20 employees, and we expect more actions to follow. We take this seriously and will continue to address leaks.”

The company has increased efforts to track down leakers, particularly after details from a recent all-hands meeting led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg were made public. Employees were warned against leaking information, but in yet another leaked statement, Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth claimed the company was “making progress on catching people.”

Morale at Meta has been strained in recent months after Zuckerberg announced significant changes, including adjustments to content moderation policies, the termination of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs, and layoffs that he said targeted “low-performers.” The company did not disclose details about what information was leaked, who was involved, or where the leaks were directed.

“There’s this interesting thing about leaks,” Bosworth reportedly said during an internal meeting in early February. “Some people think that leaking puts pressure on us to change things, but the reality is usually the opposite.”
