Meta has officially announced the rollout of ads on Threads.
On Friday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed that the company is conducting a “limited, early test of ads in Threads” with a select group of brands in the US and Japan.
The ads will appear as image posts interspersed within users’ home feeds—meta plans to analyze the results of this test before expanding ad placements more broadly. “As we learn from this test, we will monitor to see how it’s going before filling out more broadly,” the company stated.
Meta will rely on user data to deliver personalized ads, including activity on Threads and Instagram, email addresses, and interactions outside Meta-owned platforms. Users will have tools to manage their ad experience, such as skipping, hiding, and reporting ads, and customization options in the account center.
