Meta is currently testing a new feature on its Threads platform that allows posts to disappear after 24 hours.

This move is reminiscent of Twitter’s Fleets, a similar feature that was launched in 2020 but quickly discontinued after just eight months.

According to TechCrunch, when users reply to these temporary posts on Threads, they will see a countdown timer next to the person’s name. A banner at the top of the post also indicates that the content will disappear after 24 hours, along with any replies.

Meta’s decision to experiment with disappearing posts suggests a strategic attempt to integrate the popular ephemeral content trend, which has been successful on platforms like Instagram Stories and Snapchat. Whether this feature will gain traction with users remains to be seen, but it reflects Meta’s ongoing efforts to innovate and keep users engaged on Threads.

This feature is still in the testing phase, and there’s no word yet on when or if it will be rolled out more broadly.
