Meta has announced a new video editing app called Edits, set to launch next month on iOS, with an Android version following later.
The announcement comes in the wake of ByteDance’s popular video editing app CapCut being removed from Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store as part of the U.S. TikTok ban.
Instagram’s Head Adam Mosseri, sharing the news on Threads, said the app aims to empower creators with advanced tools for mobile video editing. “There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators,” Mosseri wrote.
Features Designed for Creators
Edits will include a suite of creative tools, such as:
- A dedicated inspiration tab for ideas.
- A tab for tracking creative concepts.
- A high-quality camera for professional video capture.
- The ability to share drafts with collaborators.
- Post-publishing performance insights for videos shared on Instagram.
Mosseri emphasized that Edits is designed specifically for creators rather than casual users, signaling Meta’s intention to cater to professional and semi-professional video editors.
