Meta has been looking for ways to boost Threads by connecting it more closely with its other social platforms, like Facebook and Instagram.

They’ve already tried things like cross-posting and highlighting Threads content in carousels, and now they’re testing a feature that could make sharing even easier: the ability to post Instagram Reels directly to Threads.

App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi recently spotted that Threads is working on a new option in the compose box, allowing users to pick Reels from their Instagram account and share them on Threads. Meta confirmed they’re currently testing the feature.

Here’s how it works: when you tap the Instagram button in the Threads compose box, a grid pops up displaying your Instagram posts and Reels. From there, you can select which Reel you want to post on Threads.

A lot of people are already posting their Instagram content on Threads to get more followers and increase engagement. This new feature would make that process quicker and simpler.

Earlier this year, Meta began testing a feature to automatically cross-post from Instagram to Threads. They also tested a similar option for Facebook.

Last year, Meta took steps to boost Threads’ reach by showcasing Threads posts on Facebook and Instagram via carousels. After some users voiced concerns about their posts being automatically suggested on other platforms, Meta quietly added an opt-out feature for those who preferred not to participate in the recommendation system.
