Microsoft has started slowly rolling out a preview version of its new feature called Recall to Windows Insiders, as shared in a blog post on Thursday.

Recall is designed to take snapshots (screenshots) of what you’re doing on a Copilot Plus PC, making it easier to search and find things you’ve worked on later.

This gradual release could signal that Microsoft is getting ready to launch the feature for everyone soon. Originally, Recall was supposed to launch in June alongside Copilot Plus PCs. However, after concerns from security experts, the company decided to delay it. Microsoft later planned an October release, which was also pushed back to ensure the feature was “secure and trustworthy.”

A limited preview of Recall was first made available in November for Windows Insiders using Qualcomm-based Copilot Plus PCs. Later, the preview expanded to include Intel and AMD Copilot Plus PCs. After some testing, tech reporter Tom Warren described Recall as “creepy, clever, and compelling.”

In its latest update, Microsoft confirmed that users will need to opt in to use Recall. You’ll also have the option to pause or stop the screenshot-saving feature at any time, giving users more control over their privacy.
