Microsoft has announced significant performance upgrades for its Chromium-based Edge browser, claiming up to 9% faster performance with the release of Edge version 134.
The improvements are based on tests using Speedometer 3.0, a tool that measures real-world web browsing speed.
According to Microsoft, startup time is now 2% faster, page navigation is 1.7% quicker, and web page responsiveness has improved by 5% to 7%. These gains aim to make everyday browsing smoother—reducing the time it takes to open the browser, load web pages, and interact with website elements like buttons, menus, and forms.
Microsoft also tackled issues that previously slowed down parts of the user interface. As a result, 14 areas of the UI, including Downloads, History, Drop, Favorites, and InPrivate tabs, are now 40% faster than before. These changes are available starting with Edge version 134 on both Windows and macOS.
While Edge initially outperformed Chrome in speed, it became bogged down by added features. Microsoft says it’s now focusing on optimizing both the Chromium engine and Edge-specific UI elements to bring back the browser’s fast and responsive experience.
