Microsoft is introducing a suite of new AI-powered tools in its Paint and Photos apps, designed to enhance image editing capabilities, particularly for Copilot Plus PCs.
These updates include Generative Fill and Generative Erase, which are modeled after similar features in Adobe Photoshop, allowing users to seamlessly add or remove objects in images with a size-adjustable brush. Generative Fill enables users to insert AI-generated assets into specific areas using text prompts, while Generative Erase allows for the removal of unwanted objects, similar to Google Pixel’s Magic Eraser.
In addition to these Paint enhancements, Microsoft is updating its Photos app with the Generative Erase tool and introducing a new Super-Resolution feature, which can upscale blurry or pixelated images by up to eight times their original resolution. This AI-driven tool aims to compete with existing upscalers like Canva and Adobe Lightroom, allowing users to quickly enhance images, even up to 4K resolution, with adjustable scaling.
These features represent a significant upgrade for creatives who may no longer need more advanced image editing software, as Microsoft’s diffusion-based model promises improved output quality, speed, and built-in moderation to prevent misuse.
