Microsoft has addressed a bug affecting USB printers, where they began printing random text after installing Windows updates since late January 2025.
This issue was resolved with the March 2025 KB5053643 and KB5053657 non-security preview updates for Windows 10 (version 22H2) and Windows 11 (versions 22H2 and 23H2). The fix will also be included in the cumulative updates released during the April 2025 Patch Tuesday, even for those who don’t install this month’s optional updates.
The issue caused printers to print erratic text starting with “POST /ipp/print HTTP/1.1,” followed by IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) headers, often when printers were turned on or reconnected.
Affected users saw their printers start printing unexpected text, including network commands and other unusual characters.
