Microsoft has addressed a persistent issue in Windows 11 24H2 with its January 28 optional update, KB5050094, which fixes a bug that prevented non-admin users from changing their time zone settings.
The problem, first acknowledged by Microsoft in November 2024, restricted regular users from accessing the Date & Time settings page, limiting functionality to those with administrative privileges.
This issue affected only non-admin accounts, leaving administrators unaffected. While the KB5050094 update resolves the bug, those who prefer not to install the optional update can still change the time zone via the Control Panel.
To do this, users can open the Start menu, search for Control Panel, and use the search bar to find “change the time zone.” Selecting the top result and clicking the “Change time zone…” button allows them to adjust settings manually. Alternatively, running the command timedate.cpl
via the Windows Run dialog provides access to the Date and Time settings without using the main Settings app.
Microsoft has confirmed that the fix included in KB5050094 will be rolled out to all users as part of the February 11, 2025, Patch Tuesday update, ensuring broader availability of the solution.
