OpenAI is reportedly developing its own social media platform that could compete with Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter).
According to multiple sources, the company has an early prototype of the app that features a social feed focused on ChatGPT’s image generation. CEO Sam Altman has been privately asking for feedback from outsiders, though it’s unclear whether the app will be launched separately or built into the existing ChatGPT platform.
If OpenAI moves forward with this project, it could intensify the rivalry between Sam Altman and Elon Musk. Earlier this year, Musk offered to buy OpenAI for $97.4 billion, but Altman sarcastically replied, “no thank you but we will buy Twitter for $9.74 billion if you want.”
The move would also place OpenAI in direct competition with Meta, which is working on its own AI assistant app that includes a social feed. A social network could help OpenAI gather real-time data—something both Meta and Musk’s Grok AI already benefit from. This type of data is especially useful for training AI models.
