OpenAI has introduced three new reasoning models—o3, o4-mini, and o4-mini-high—for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.

While these models promise more advanced capabilities, they also come with strict usage limits, especially for Plus users.

According to a recent support document, ChatGPT Plus users paying $20/month can access the most powerful o3 model with a cap of 50 messages per week. Meanwhile, the o4-mini model allows 150 messages per day, and o4-mini-high—optimized for coding—permits 50 messages per day.

These limitations, however, don’t apply to ChatGPT Pro users, who pay $200/month. Pro subscribers are granted “near unlimited” access to these models, although OpenAI warns that some restrictions may still apply in cases of abuse, automation, or policy violations. This includes data scraping, account sharing, and reselling access.

Free-tier users can only try the o4-mini model through the reasoning feature, with no access to the more advanced versions.

OpenAI emphasized that it uses guardrails to detect and prevent misuse and may temporarily restrict accounts to maintain the system’s integrity.
