OpenAI is working on integrating its AI video generation tool, Sora, into ChatGPT, making it easier for users to create videos directly within the chatbot.
During a Discord office hours session, OpenAI’s Sora product lead, Rohan Sahai, confirmed these plans but did not specify a timeline.
Currently, Sora is only available through a web app, allowing users to generate up to 20-second cinematic clips. OpenAI initially marketed Sora to creatives and video production studios, but now aims to broaden its appeal by bringing it to ChatGPT.
The integration could also serve as an incentive for users to upgrade to premium ChatGPT tiers with higher video generation limits.
OpenAI is also exploring a standalone mobile app for Sora and expanding its capabilities to AI-powered image generation. A Sora-based image generator could potentially deliver more photorealistic results than the current DALL·E 3 model used in ChatGPT. Additionally, OpenAI is developing an improved version of Sora Turbo, the model behind the web app.
