OpenAI is currently testing a ChatGPT app for Windows, but it’s only now accessible to paid users.
You can grab the early version of the app from the Microsoft Store.
Similar to the Mac version, ChatGPT for Windows lets you interact with the AI-powered chatbot in a dedicated window. You can keep this window open while working on other apps. There’s also a handy shortcut (Alt + Space) for quick access.
The app allows users to upload files and images to ChatGPT and includes a preview of OpenAI’s o1 model, known for its “reasoning” abilities. However, some features, like advanced voice mode, are still missing.
After the Mac version launched in June, a developer uncovered a security issue where conversations were stored as plain text. OpenAI has since addressed this problem, ensuring that locally stored data is now encrypted.
Although the Windows app is currently limited to ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscribers, OpenAI plans to roll it out to all users later this year.
