Law enforcement agencies worldwide have dismantled 27 illegal DDoS-for-hire platforms in a coordinated effort known as Operation PowerOFF.

These platforms, often referred to as “booter” and “stresser” websites, allowed cybercriminals to launch massive Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, disrupting websites and online services.

Led by Europol and involving authorities from 15 countries, the operation targeted all levels of involvement, from platform administrators to individual users. Three administrators were arrested in France and Germany, while over 300 users were identified for potential prosecution. These attacks, particularly disruptive during the holiday season, have caused significant financial and reputational damage to businesses worldwide.

To prevent future offenses, the initiative includes a digital awareness campaign targeting potential offenders. Google ads, YouTube tutorials, and personalized warnings aim to educate young people about the legal consequences of engaging in DDoS attacks. Law enforcement agencies also issued over 250 warning letters and sent 2,000 emails to deter misuse.
