A Reddit user recently shared a screenshot revealing an unexpected discovery on Spotify: a pornographic video appearing in the suggested results for a search related to the rapper M.I.A.
While the specific video in the screenshot didn’t show up for everyone, further digging uncovered similar explicit content in the platform’s “Video” tab.
One of the accounts responsible for this type of content has a history of uploading erotic audio but recently expanded to sexually explicit videos. Another account, identified by a nonsensical alphanumeric username, has been posting graphic videos under the guise of podcast uploads since November.
When contacted for comment, Spotify representative Laura Batey confirmed to The Verge that the flagged content was removed for violating the platform’s policies, which prohibit sexually explicit material. However, Spotify has yet to explain how such content bypassed its moderation system.
