Spotify has officially integrated with Google’s Gemini Extensions, enabling users to search for and play music through natural language commands powered by Google’s generative AI assistant.

Originally spotted in the Google app’s code in June, this feature is now rolling out to Android devices with compatible capabilities, as reported by 9to5Google.

With Gemini, users can request music by mentioning song titles, artist names, albums, playlists, or activities. However, the current functionality doesn’t extend to creating custom playlists or radio stations within Spotify. If you’ve already linked another music app, such as YouTube Music, you must specify which service Gemini should use during your initial request. After that, it will remember your preference for subsequent commands.

Spotify is the only non-Google app that has gained access to Gemini’s features, following the integration with WhatsApp in October.

To enable the Spotify extension, you must link your Google and Spotify accounts and activate Gemini Apps in your settings. Google’s support page notes that Gemini Apps Activity can store your voice or text queries for up to 72 hours. It’s important to note that this feature isn’t available within Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or the iOS version of the Gemini app. Additionally, Gemini’s language must be set to English for the integration to function at launch.

This new collaboration allows Spotify users to look forward to a more seamless music experience, blending advanced AI capabilities with their favorite streaming service.
