Spotify experienced a major outage on Wednesday morning, leaving users across the US and Europe unable to stream music or access the platform.

The issues affected the web player, desktop app, and iOS app, with many users encountering black screens or unresponsive song playback.

The outage began early in the day, with Spotify’s @SpotifyStatus account acknowledging the issue at 8:45 AM ET, stating they were “aware of some issues” and investigating. By 10:39 AM ET, the company reassured users that it was not a security breach and that engineers were working to resolve the issue “as soon as possible.”

Downdetector and other monitoring services showed a surge in reports across both Europe and the US, and a global outage map from ThousandEyes confirmed widespread impact. Some users on iOS could still play cached music, but streaming new content was largely impossible during the disruption.

By just after noon ET, Spotify posted an all-clear update saying that “things look much better now,” and user reports have sharply declined. The cause of the outage has not been officially disclosed.
