SpaceX’s Starlink internet service is about to reach 4 million users, according to company President Gwynne Shotwell.

She shared the news while speaking to Texas lawmakers this week, highlighting how fast the service has grown.

Starlink, which started its beta testing phase in October 2020, has quickly gained popularity. By December 2022, it had 1 million subscribers, which doubled to 2 million by September 2023, and hit 3 million in May 2024.

Now, with nearly 6,000 satellites in orbit, Starlink offers internet access in close to 100 countries, serving both regular people and large companies like airlines and cruise ships.

This year, Starlink is expected to bring in $6.6 billion in revenue, up from $1.4 billion just two years ago. The service is a big part of SpaceX’s plan to fund future space exploration, including developing their massive reusable rocket, Starship. Starship will eventually help SpaceX launch even more satellites, speeding up Starlink’s growth.
