Tesla has introduced a refreshed version of its Model Y SUV, aimed at the Chinese and broader Asia-Pacific markets.

This marks the first major update to the Model Y since its debut in 2020 and comes after Tesla’s first annual decline in deliveries in 2024 compared to 2023 — a rarity since the company began selling mass-market cars in 2012.

Codenamed “Juniper” internally, the updated Model Y incorporates design elements from Tesla’s recent projects, echoing the refreshed Model 3 sedan and borrowing features from the Cybertruck and Cybercab prototypes. Key changes include:

  • Sharper Front Design: A sleeker, less rounded front end, akin to the updated Model 3.
  • Continuous Front Light Bar: Replacing traditional headlights with a light bar stretching across the front, mirroring the Cybertruck.
  • “Cross-Car Lamp” Taillight: A single, reflective light strip across the rear hatch, a first for Tesla.

Enhanced Interior and Features

The interior sees several improvements, aligning with Tesla’s focus on a more premium experience:

  • Ambient Lighting: A customizable light bar wrapping around the cabin, similar to the updated Model 3.
  • Rear Passenger Touchscreen: A new display for rear-seat passengers.
  • Powered Rear Seats: Offering added convenience and flexibility.
  • Improved Suspension and Noise Reduction: Enhancements for a quieter and smoother ride.

The SUV is also slightly lighter, which allows for a modest range increase, though no major drivetrain changes have been introduced.
