After being banned for almost a month, TikTok has returned to Apple’s App Store and Google Play for Android users in the United States.
The return follows a letter from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to Apple, assuring the company that it wouldn’t face fines for hosting the app, according to Bloomberg.
Apple and Google initially pulled TikTok from their platforms in January to comply with a law prohibiting apps owned by ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company. Although former President Donald Trump signed an executive order on January 20th that temporarily halted enforcement of the ban for 75 days, both tech giants had been reluctant to reinstate the app due to potential billion-dollar penalties.
Neither Apple nor Google has publicly commented on Bondi’s letter. TikTok, the Department of Justice, and other involved parties have also remained silent regarding the app’s return.
