In a recent cybersecurity incident, Jeremiah Fowler, a researcher, uncovered an unsecured database containing over 31 million records tied to TrackMan, a company known for its sports analytics technology, particularly in golf and baseball.
The database was found to be unprotected by any password or encryption, making it vulnerable to potential access by malicious actors. The exposed data included names, email addresses, device information, IP addresses, and security tokens.
TrackMan offers advanced performance analysis tools, including golf simulators and devices that track swing and shot metrics using Doppler radar technology. The leak involved highly detailed user session reports, containing sensitive information that could be exploited for targeted cyberattacks, such as phishing or social engineering.
Fowler reported the breach to TrackMan, and public access to the database was swiftly restricted. However, the extent of the exposure, including whether any unauthorized parties accessed the data, remains unclear. TrackMan has not publicly commented on the incident or provided details on any internal investigation.
