Turkey’s Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) has fined Amazon-owned gaming platform Twitch 2 million lira ($58,000) following a significant data breach.

The breach, which exposed 125 GB of data, affected 35,274 individuals in Turkey.

KVKK’s investigation revealed that Twitch failed to implement sufficient security measures before the breach and only addressed vulnerabilities after the incident. The board also criticized the platform for inadequate risk and threat assessments.

The penalty includes a 1.75 million lira fine for insufficient security protocols and an additional 250,000 lira for failing to report the breach promptly. Twitch has not yet issued a public statement regarding the fine.

At the current exchange rate of 34.4185 lira to the dollar, the total fine amounts to approximately $58,000.
