NASA has restored contact with Voyager 2, the space probe that has been exploring the universe for over 45 years.
The agency had lost contact with the probe on July 25 after it received a wrong command that caused its antenna to tilt away from Earth.
However, on August 1, NASA received a “heartbeat” signal from Voyager 2, indicating that the probe was still broadcasting and in good health. The agency was able to restore contact with the probe by sending a new command that corrected the antenna’s orientation.
The mishap was a setback for the Voyager 2 mission, but it is not a major one. The probe is still expected to continue operating for many years to come, and it is still transmitting valuable data about the universe.
The “heartbeat” signal from Voyager 2 is a welcome sign that the probe is still alive and well. It is a reminder of the amazing things that humans can accomplish when we work together.
