Meta-owned WhatsApp’s latest Android beta update introduces the ability to raise your hand and react with emojis.
As reported by Android Authority, this feature is designed to make video calls feel a little more engaging, giving users an easy way to communicate without interrupting the conversation.
Much like the functionality seen in Google Meet, the new features on WhatsApp aren’t overwhelming. Users can choose from a small set of emoji reactions, including the thumbs-up and heart emojis, which can be sent with just a tap. Additionally, you can now raise your hand to indicate you want to speak or get attention, mimicking the common practice in virtual meetings.
Both the hand-raising and emoji reaction options are conveniently tucked behind the three-dots menu, so they’re easily accessible but won’t clutter the interface. As with most beta features, these tools will likely evolve before making their way to the wider WhatsApp user base, so expect more customization options down the line.
