X, the social network owned by Elon Musk, has finally answered users’ calls for one of the most requested features: the ability to edit direct messages.

Over the weekend, X began rolling out the edit message feature to iOS users. The news was confirmed by an engineer at the company, who shared that the feature will be available on more platforms soon.

Here’s how you can use the new edit feature on iOS:

  1. Open any direct message chat within the X iOS app.
  2. Long press on the message you want to edit, or tap the three-dot menu next to it.
  3. Select the “Edit message” option to make your changes.

According to a support page on X, there’s no time limit on when you can edit a message. However, there is a catch: you can only edit a message up to five times. This is consistent with the editing limit the platform applies to posts as well.

While X has stated that it keeps a log of all edited messages for security reasons, the version history of those edits is not currently visible to users.
