YouTube is rolling out a new AI-powered tool called Music Assistant, allowing creators to generate copyright-free instrumental tracks for their videos, according to a report by TechCrunch.

The feature was showcased in a recent episode of the company’s Creator Insider series.

Located within the Creator Music beta section of YouTube Studio, Music Assistant lets users input text prompts like “uplifting and motivational music for a workout montage.” Based on the description, the AI generates multiple instrumental tracks, which creators can preview, download, and use—completely free of copyright concerns.

The feature is being rolled out gradually to users who already have access to Creator Music. YouTube’s Lauren from Creator Insider emphasized that this new tool aims to make it easier for creators to find the perfect background music without the hassle of licensing.

Music Assistant joins a growing list of AI-powered music tools in the industry, including Stability AI’s diffusion-based audio generator and Meta’s open-source AudioCraft and MusicGen models. YouTube has also been exploring AI-generated music through tools like Dream Track, which turns user-inputted humming into music in the style of artists like T-Pain.
